OSTA Solo Competition

12 09 2010

The OSTA Solo Competition will be held on Saturday October 16th at Dension University in Granville, Ohio.

Eligibility: To be eligible for entry into this competition you or your teacher must be a current ASTA/OSTA member with instrument categories of Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Harp, and Guitar and proof of membership is required.

There are two levels of participation, the Junior Division and the Senior Division. The Junior Division is open to musicians under the age of 19 as of March 20, 2011 and the Senior Division is open to musicians 19 – 25 as of March 20, 2011. You are required to have accompaniment and follow the repertoire guidelines of the National Office. The repertoire was chosen to showcase each competitor’s skills and includes Bach, a required work, and a piece selected by each competitor. The state competition does not require memorization, but the national competition does.

If you are selected by the state committee you will advance to the 2011 ASTA National Solo Competition to be held in Kansas City Missouri between March 16 – 19. The application deadline for entry into that competition is through the state chair and that deadline is November 1, 2010. Once the state chair signs off on your entry your name and information will be forwarded to the National Office by November 15, 2010.
